Sunset Monitoring Services' Origins:

Sunset Monitoring Services was founded as a private company, to provide only the very highest quality, and lowest cost, electronic monitoring services, such as; Voice Recognition Presence Monitoring, Radio Frequency (RF) ankle-bracelet Curfew Monitoring, in-home and remotely monitored Breath-Alcohol Testing/Monitoring and of course, GPS ankle-bracelet tracking/monitoring (either with or without integrated - continuous alcohol and/or curfew monitoring). We soon thereafter added services and products designed for and well suited to other kinds of location tracking and personal safety monitoring as well as asset tracking and protection.

Many of the monitoring products and services we provide, were originally conceived and designed to be used by the criminal courts and various community corrections programs throughout the world as alternatives to traditional incarceration. These kinds of electronic monitoring services, have for years, allowed low to moderate-risk and non-violent offenders to pay their debts to society while they continue to stay employed and more critically, while they maintain crucial family relationships, so in part, this enables and encourages the offender to pay their court ordered fines and even more importantly to pay their victims, the financial restitution the offender may owe.

By encourraging and enabling offenders who are employed, to remain employed and productive, and by helping to prevent them from becoming “institutionalized”, and/or alienated from society and their families, and by not exposing them to the influence of the more hardened criminal population, who must be incarcerated, recidivism and criminal escalation can be markedly reduced. The monetary expenses to the community are greatly reduced as well, right from the start, since the financial burden, for all practical purposes, is as it should be, born entirely by the offender, who created the expense in the first place.

The Basics of Who We Are:

Sunset Monitoring Services was originally conceived and created, to fill the void, which came about when The State of Utah Department of Corrections, Division of Adult Probation and Parole (AP&P) discontinued the State Managed, Electronic Offender Monitoring Program in the early months of 2009.

Sunset Monitoring Services' company founder is a retired probation/parole officer, having served as an agent with The State of Utah Department of Corrections, Division of Adult Probation and Parole (AP&P) for over 22 years. For the final several years of his career, our founder headed up the electronic offender monitoring program in the Salt Lake County area. During that time, he had noticed several companies in the private sector were charging outrageous fees for relatively inexpensive monitoring equipment. With The State of Utah getting out of the business of providing Electronic Monitoring Services and with the private sector charging unreasonable fees, our company founder saw the Utah Courts were starting to move away from these valuable tools.

Our Company founder decided to retire from the Utah Department of Corrections and to use his contacts with several of the equipment manufacturers, to start Sunset Monitoring Services. Soon thereafter, he brought a trusted business associate on board, who also brings well over a dozen years of highly trained, dedicated and expert law enforcement/corrections experience, as well as several years of financial services industry experience to our company. Just over a year later, our company brought on-board another retired AP&P agent who had also managed a local competitor's monitoring business, but who was frustrated with the competitor's high prices and inability to consistently deliver the kinds of products and services Sunset Monitoring Services does. Together, with their several decades of combined hands-on experience in local corrections/law enforcement service, these three professionals, have combined their knowledge and expertise to oversee a very high quality, LOW COST electronic monitoring services business, which is capable of fulfilling the various needs of our all our clients, whether they be, Individual Community Members and Private Citizens dealing with Alzheimer's, Autism or other wandering concerns, someone concerned with the personal safety of a child or other loved ones, a business owner tracking employee activity and/or inventory, or an institution getting help with an Alcohol Abuse Treatment Program, or the Local Courts, Correctional Agencies and the Monitored Criminal Offenders.

Sunset Monitoring Services is committed to our original foundations and ideals. We continue to be exclusively owned and entirely operated by former local and state law enforcement personnel. Each one of our staff members has a significant background in professional corrections experience and has spent their primary career dedicated to public safety and the pursuit of justice.
