Wandering can be a major source of concern and anxiety among the care givers of adults with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, or any of a variety of afflictions associated with memory loss, brain injuries, and/or other forms of diminished mental capacity.

Literally thousands of critical wandering incidents occur each year, involving individuals with Alzheimer's, Dementia, memory loss, brain injuries or various forms of diminished mental capacity, who simply wander away from their home or care facility. Times of severely hot or coldweather conditions, which are commonly present throughout the United States, are some of the riskiest for a loved one to wander off. Trajically some individuals are never found and many others are simply found too late to have prevented serious injuries or sometimes even death.

These very same kinds of legitimate wandering concerns are often shared every day by the care givers of those coping with Autism, Down Syndrome or other matters, which might play a factor in the cared for individual, becoming distracted and wandering away.

Sunset Monitoring Services provides a variety of inexpensive, effective and easy to use, GPS monitoring and tracking solutions, tailored specifically to these situations. Whether it's our professional GPS monitoring or a do it your self GPS monitoring and tracking service, these solutions can provide simple and managable pathways to the necessary safety and security for the person being cared for, and they give peace of mind to the care givers, family members and other concerned loved ones as well.

This is how it works:

When the care giver of a person, observes the person being cared for, is exhibiting signs they may tend to wander away; or if the care giver of a person may just be concerned for any reason, about the possible dire consequences for the person being cared for in the event of a potential wandering situation; the care giver should immediately contact Sunset Monitoring Services for a complimentary, no pressure, no obligations, consultation. We will gladly help the care giver to evaluate whether or not, one of our various GPS monitoring platforms would be an appropriate and viable solution for them and their particular situation.  If GPS monitoring is appropriate, Sunset Monitoring Services will either have your device delivered directly to your home, along with simple, easy to use instructions (and of course you'd have access to live 24x7 customer support); or if appropriate to your situation, we'll make an appointment to come directly to your location and we'll have one of our highly experienced representatives put our equipment in place and begin our professional monitoring service.  Either way, if GPS monitoring is right for you, Sunset Monitoring Services can get you started with one of our comprehensive monitoring programs right away. If GPS monitoring is not appropriate for your circumstances, we'll happily do our best to help you decide, what if any, alternatives might be better suited for you.

If GPS monitoring is started, regardless of which platform you choose, your device can be configured according to the detailed specifications of the care giver. Each of our systems allow the client's address and/or several other locations, which the care giver wishes, to be easily programed into our web based system as Inclusion Zones (or safe zones). These Inclusion zones can be large or small and can be customized in various ways according to the needs of the client. As long as the monitored person remains within the specified Inclusion Zone(s), the monitoring device tracks that person in the passive mode and simply indicates the monitored person is where they are supposed to be. The system is also capable of having Exclusion Zones (or forbidden zones) established so notification is made if the monitored person goes somewhere they are not supposed to be.

During the initial set-up, the care giver can establish specific protocols regarding who to notify in the event of a wandering occurrence and how/when to notify them (text message, telephone call, e-mail,etc.). In the case of a wandering event, the monitoring device immediately switches to an active, real-time GPS tracking mode. Our monitoring systems are capable of tracking the monitored person anywhere both a GPS and Cellular Signal can be obtained. With our web based platform, the care giver can begin tracking the client's whereabouts in real-time. The care giver can access the monitoring system at any time using any device which provides access to the internet (such as an iPhone, Blackberry, Smart-Phone, Lap-top Computer, Desk Top Computer, etc.) If no internet access is available for the care giver, they can always simply call our 24 x 7 toll free hot-line. Once communication with the care giver is established, we'll do our best to help guide the care giver to the client's location. Our service center is always available, whenever an incident takes place, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
